Definitely look into other mid-range options before shelling out big bucks on something that has a lot of functionality you won't use. They do work well, and solve common problems with cheaper scales, but they just do not need to be that expensive in order to accomplish that. I actually got both as gifts, and never would have spent that kind of money on them myself. I also have tried it for pour overs, and yeah it works, but it's a little small for that/the screen can be a bit hard to see. I do have the Lunar for espresso, and while I occasionally use it's app functionality (actually, a third party app.) Again I mainly keep it in one mode. There are some other scales that are considerably less expensive and still right up there in quality, have a look around some coffee retailers for what's out there/available to you. Yes, it's very nice not to have to replace batteries all the time (I only have to charge it maybe once or twice a year?). I was starting to go through cheap scales that had various issues and then got the Pearl. Is it a great product that you can rely on for the foreseeable future? Definetly. It is a must-have for coffee shops that prioritize quality but do not have shot counters with all of their unique capabilities. I never have to worry about water spilling and it's response time is just lightning quick, those are the two points that convinced me the most. The Acaia Lunar is a stunning addition to any home or business coffee bar because of its practical design, sturdy construction, and refined appearance. I can use this comfortably with my V60 decanter on top of the scale and still see weight and timer easily, the added rubber surface really helps elevating it. The little rubber stickers prevent it from moving on the drip tray, but they also work on the counter for regular pourovers / Aeropress. The high quality coffee scale, made with experience in manufacturing laboratory precision balances, won the Best New Product Award, and Acaia has since. This thing is rock solid and so well made, it's incredible. I bit the bullet and got a nice discount for an Acaia Lunar, but it was still very much expensive.

I was constantly worried about water leakage aswell, luckily nothing happened. It's a decent scale but the accuracy limitations bound to the weights make it frustrating to use for espresso and it didn't fit on my driptray to begin with. I also had the Hario scale and it just felt sluggish to work with. I actually was in the same situation as you two weeks ago.
